De-Cluttering Before Holiday Decorating

Every year, as the holidays approach, we start to think about decorating our homes. We get out the boxes of decorations and begin to transform our living spaces into a festive wonderland. But before you start breaking out the ghosts & goblins, there’s one important step you should take: de-cluttering and removing all that old junk!

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and memories. But they can also be a time of stress and anxiety. One of the main sources of holiday stress is trying to make your home look perfect for guests. If your home is cluttered, it can be difficult to find a place for all of your holiday decorations. And if you’re entertaining guests, you want them to feel comfortable in your home—not like they’re wading through a sea of your stuff.

That’s why it’s so important to de-clutter before you start decorating for the holidays. Getting rid of clutter will not only make it easier to find a place for your holiday decorations, but it will also make your home look and feel more inviting for guests.

Not sure where to start? Here are some tips to get started on before calling Local Junk Removal to dispose of your unwanted items.

Start with the entryway: Your entryway is the first thing guests see when they come to your home. Make sure to go through the coats and shoes, pulling out any items that no longer fit or are going unused.

Family Room / Entertainment Room: If you’re short on time, focus on de-cluttering the areas of your home that get the most traffic. The family room is a great place to start! Often times the family room has unread / unused magazines, books or even toys the kids or grandchildren no longer use. Maybe you have a big piece of furniture that goes unused over the years, but remains there because you don’t know where else to put it? The items that are no longer serving you a purpose, should be set aside in a pile. Setting items aside, not only gives you a foundation for the progress you’ve made, it also gives you a visual representation of the extra space you’ve created for yourself. If the item is too heavy, or awkward to move, don’t worry. You can leave it in place and we’ll remove it when we pick up the rest of the items.

Garage / Yard: More times than not, the garage becomes a “catch-all” for unwanted or unused items merely based on the thought of “I’ll tend to this later”. What better time than now to get rid of them once and for all. All those items you’ve been “meaning to take” to goodwill or the dump, it’ll be gone! Clearing the garage gives you the space needed to break out the decorations and set aside any old, broken or unwanted decorations. Gaining the motivation from the garage will help you to move onto the yard. Broken or damaged furniture and toys can be set aside to be hauled away as well. Do you have bigger items that are taking up space and no longer working for you? We’ll dismantle it and haul it off!
